Transmission Investment holds reception at Westminster for LirIC Interconnector project

Transmission Investment has held a reception at Westminster to bring together stakeholders and political representatives from across the UK to discuss the LirlC Interconnector project and the challenges of delivering large scale energy infrastructure projects. The event, which took place on 12th of March was well attended with MPs, members of the House of Lords, representatives from Northern Ireland Electricity Networks (NIEN), the NI Utility Regulator, the System Operator for Northern Ireland (SONI),  the NI Department of the Economy, the Westminster Net Zero Committee, and others, keen to hear more about the project.

Speaking at the event, TI Project Development Director James Dickson said,

“Electricity Interconnectors are enabling technology, which are technically proven, commercially available, and ready for deployment today. They enable the efficient utilisation and integration of renewables onto the system by providing a route to maximise renewable use through exporting or importing renewable electricity. A project like LirlC will best succeed if there is a clearly defined, stable and harmonised regulatory and policy environment in place at each end of this UK interconnector. Within this framework, key stakeholders, like the people in this room, will have a role to play in delivering this essential piece of infrastructure. We wanted to bring this clear message to Westminster today – we will all need to work together in a way we’ve never done before to swiftly put in place the frameworks required to encourage and secure the investment needed to deliver the infrastructure that the UK needs and meet the challenges we all face in delivering net zero.”

We look forward to continuing to engage with all stakeholders to make LirIC a success and deliver the benefits of this exciting project for the UK as a whole.
