Transmission Capital Partners was declared preferred bidder for the Ormonde offshore transmission licence on 28th October 2010 and established TC Ormonde OFTO Ltd as a special purpose company to acquire the Ormonde offshore transmission assets. TC Ormonde OFTO Ltd was awarded a transmission licence and took ownership of assets on 10th July 2012. The transfer value of the assets was £103.9m.
The Ormonde offshore transmission assets connect the 150MW Ormonde offshore windfarm to the 132kV electricity distribution network at Heysham substation in Lancashire. The 132kV export cable route is 43km offshore and 3km onshore.
The Ormonde offshore transmission assets were the fourth and final assets to be acquired by Transmission Capital Partners from the nine projects tendered by Ofgem in the first offshore transmission tender round. Our only offshore cable repair to date was carried out on the Ormonde export cable in 2017. Transmission Investment managed a pre-emptive repair of a fibre optic unit defect in record time requiring only a 38-day outage.
