Description

Transmission Capital Partners was declared the preferred bidder for the Beatrice offshore transmission licence on the 18th December 2019 and established TC Beatrice OFTO Ltd as a special purpose company to acquire the Beatrice offshore transmission assets. TC Beatrice OFTO Ltd was awarded a transmission licence and took ownership of the assets on the 4th of August 2021. The transfer value of the assets was £438m.

The Beatrice offshore transmission assets connect the 588MW Beatrice offshore windfarm to the Scottish Hydro Electric 400kV electricity transmission network at Blackhillock substation near to Keith in Moray. The 220kV export cable route is 70km offshore and 20km onshore and comes ashore close to Portgordon. Two 220/33kV Offshore Transformer Modules (OTMs) step up the voltage from the 33kV of the wind turbines to allow efficient transmission at 220kV to the onshore substation.

The Beatrice assets are the first offshore transmission assets in Scotland to be transferred to an offshore transmission licensee.
