The French Regulator, the Commission de régulation de l’énergie (CRE) launched a public consultation on 18th March considering the merit of increasing interconnection capacity between France and the UK. The consultation suggests a new interconnection project with a capacity of around 1 GW could be economically profitable.

The CRE considered a list of ranked candidate projects submitted by RTE which placed FAB highest of those with regulatory approval in the UK.

James Dickson, the FAB Link Project Director, said: “We are encouraged by the increased appetite from CRE for another project on the border and for the opportunity to further present the FAB project through this consultation process. We aim to promote the case for FAB as a mature project with credible experienced promoters who have shown a longstanding commitment to this sector.”
